Dengue Fever in Martinique

12 Oct 2020

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has reported an increased number of dengue cases in Martinique in recent months.  There have been 20,520 suspected dengue cases, including eight severe cases and ten deaths between 4 November 2019 to 27 September 2020. Among these cases, 7,790 cases, including one severe case and seven deaths were reported in September 2020.

Advice for Travellers

All travellers to regions where dengue fever occurs are potentially at risk and should be aware of this infection.

The best way to avoid infection is to prevent mosquito bites.  As the transmitting mosquitoes bite from dawn until dusk, long clothing should be worn and repellents should be used all day.
