Anthrax in Momba District, Tanzania

The World Health Organisation reports that there have been 81 cases of anthrax (including 4 deaths) in Tanzania between the beginning of December 2018 and 17 January 2019. All cases have been reported from Momba District, Songwe Region and are thought to have had contact with infected livestock.
Prevention in Travellers
The risk of anthrax exposure during travel is extremely low.
However, travellers should contact with dead animals, carcasses and products of animal origin such as souvenirs made from animal skins.
Vaccination is available for those at high occupational risk and some military personnel. Vaccination is not recommended for most travellers.
