Myanmar - International Measures to Stop the Spread of Poliovirus Update
17 Oct 2018
It is more than three years since circulation of wild-type polio ceased in Myanmar (last case 8 October 2015). Therefore polio vaccination is no longer recommended for travellers visiting this country.
Advice for Travellers
Polio is spread mainly through person to person contact via the faecal-oral route. Particularly in areas where sanitation is poor. Travellers should take strict precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
Further information can be found on the Poliomyelitis page.
