Leprosy in Mexico

On 12 April 2018, the media reportedthat so far this year (2018), at least 22 leprosy cases have been reported in 14 states of Mexico. During 2017, a total of 125 cases of leprosy were reported across Mexico.
Advice for Travellers
The risk of leprosy for the average traveller is extremely small. The risk is greater for those working closely with untreated lepromatous patients in a healthcare setting or volunteers in a leprosy centre who should be aware of the risk and have regular health checks.
