Poliomyelitis in Pakistan (Update)

One new case of poliomyelitis has been reported in Pakistan. The case was identified in Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province with onset of paralysis on 23 April 2016. The total number of poliomyelitis cases this year is 10.
No new environmental positive sample was reported in the past week. The most recent environmental positive sample was collected in Sukkur district of Sindh province on 19 March 2016. National Immunization Days are currently ongoing.
Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of polio vaccine according to the UK childhood schedule. It is recommended that travellers have a poliomyelitis booster (or course) if not already protected. Travellers should also take precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
