Dengue Fever in Vietnam

The media has reported on an increase in dengue fever in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh city in the south of the country has reported an 88% increase in hospital admissions due to dengue fever in the first three months of 2016, compared to the same time period last year. A total of 6116 dengue fever cases required hospital treatment.
During March 2016, 250 dengue cases were recorded weekly in Ho Chi Minh city.
Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
