Yellow Fever in Brazil

The media has reported on a case of yellow fever which was confirmed by the State Department of Health on 1 June 2015.
The case is an unvaccinated 31-year-old man in Alexania, a rural area not far from the Federal District, Goias state. Yellow fever was diagnosed in Brazilia, where the patient received treatment; he has since returned home. This is the fourth case of yellow fever to be confirmed in Goias state in 2015. The other cases include two in Alto Paraiso and one in Luis Alves.
Advice for Travellers
Goias state lies within the yellow fever risk areas of Brazil and vaccination to these areas is recommended by WHO. Travellers should also take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
