02 Feb 2015
Two human cases of avian influenza (H7N9) have been reported in the province of British Columbia, on the west coast of Canada. The two cases, who are husband and wife, are thought to have acquired the infection during a recent trip to China.
The couple became unwell a day or two after returning to Canada on 12 January 2015. Confirmation of the infection was announced on 29 January. These two cases are the first to be reported in North America and both have recovered. No contacts of the couple have shown any signs of infection.
