Cholera in Nepal (Update)
11 Jul 2014
The cholera outbreak in Rautahat district, Central Region is ongoing. More than 1500 cases have been recorded since the outbreak began three months ago. The source of the outbreak is contaminated water in the stream that supplies the village with drinking water. Health officials hope that when the rains come people will stop drinking water from the contaminated stream which would help contain the outbreak.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
