Measles in Pakistan (Update)

The measles outbreak in Pakistan is ongoing, around 20 707 cases have been reported in Punjab province since the beginning of the year (2013).
According to the health department, at least 182 deaths have been reported so far, most occurred in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Kasur.
During the last 24 hours, around 104 new cases of measles were reported in Punjab, including 24 in city hospitals.
More than 5000 measles cases and 80 related deaths have been reported in the city of Lahore in this outbreak.
Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
