Dengue Fever in Madeira (Portugal) (Update)

The Ministry of Health for Portugal has declared that the outbreak of dengue fever on the island of Madeira is now under control.
New cases of dengue fever have been decreasing since mid-November 2012, and there have been no laboratory confirmed cases since 4 February 2013. A total of 2168 case of dengue fever have been recorded since the outbreak began last year (2012).
Advice for Travellers
Although the dengue fever outbreak is considered under control, travellers should continue to take steps to avoid mosquito bites and be aware of the possible risk.
