Dengue Fever in Brazil

Between 01 January and early November 2012, 565 510 cases of dengue fever including 247 deaths have been reported in Brazil, of those, 3774 cases were dengue haemorrhagic fever.
States with increased cases in 2012, compared with 2011, include: Mato Grosso (479%), Alagoas (239%), Roraima (56%), Tocantins (17%), Piaui (20%), Rio Grande do Norte (19%), Pernambuco (75%), Rio de Janeiro (11%), Sergipe (34%) and Bahia (30%).
Advice for Travellers
Brazil is a popular tourist destination and travellers should be aware of the risk of dengue fever and are advised to use personal protection methods to avoid mosquito bites.
