Cholera in Haiti

The cholera outbreak in Haiti is ongoing and as of 07 Aug 2012, more than 42,000 new cases and approximately 400 deaths have been reported since the beginning of 2012 and numbers are increasing.

A cumulative number of 580,947 cases and 7,442 deaths have been reported since the epidemic began in Oct 2010.

Advice for Travellers

Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
