Belize certified malaria-free by WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) certified Belize as malaria-free on 21 June 2023.
Belize is the fourth country in the Americas and the second in Central America to be certified as free of malaria in the last 5 years.
Malaria elimination certification is granted by the WHO when a country has:
- shown that transmission of malaria in that country has been interrupted for at least three consecutive years
- demonstrated the capacity to prevent malaria transmission re-occurring
